Linley E. (Gene) Courtwright, 77, of Waynesburg, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, after being in failing health for the past year.
He was born September 5, 1933, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, a son of the late Robert Linley and Edith K. Glover Courtwright.
Mr. Courtwright had resided in Shreveport, La., for 30 years prior to returning to Greene County in 1993.
He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg.
Mr. Courtwright was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as SP3 with Company B, 1st Medical Tank Battalion, 68th Armored Division, under Gen. Patton.
He was a member of American Legion Post 948 in Wormleysburg and a former member of the Moose and Elks lodges, both in Waynesburg.
Mr. Courtwright was employed by Milbar Hydro Test Inc. of Shreveport for 30 years, prior to retiring as a foreman in 1993.
Surviving are two sisters, Karen S. Henry of Waynesburg and Peggy, wife of Burdette Gallentine, of Moundsville, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are four brothers, William J., Harry D., Robert Lee and Roger L. Courtwright; and a sister, Ruth Ellen Whipkey.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.
