The western Pennsylvania Polish community will gather in Pittsburgh on Thursday, Aug. 26, at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland for a special commemoration of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, known as the Black Madonna and the Queen of Poland.

Jane Duffield originally from Uniontown, and now a resident of Pittsburgh, recently received a master of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

St. George Serbian Church in Carmichaels recently took time to thank emergency medical providers and to bless ambulances, a tradition it has practiced for almost 12 years.

Dr. Charles Callahan, the recipient of many awards and commissions, including ASCAP, American Guild of Organists and choirmaster of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury, Vt., performed at the recent dedication of the new A.F. Sterner, digitally-based organ at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Brownsville. The organ features voices created by E.M. Skinner that reflects the sound appropriate for the architecture and time period of the church, which was built in 1845 and is the oldest church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg.

The annual live Nativity at Central Christian Church in Uniontown will be held today. This will be the 36th year that the church, located at 23 S. Gallatin Ave., has performed the reenactment of the Holy Night. Bill and Brandi Denney, as Joseph and Mary, prepare for the event. Many other performers and live animals from Greenfield Farms participate in the performances that will be held at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Crèche displays and refreshments will be provided inside the church.

Live Nativity tonight



A combined choir composed of members from Asbury United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Church will perform the cantata “Only Love’’ by Randy Vader and Jay Rouse at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18 at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 20 Dunbar St., Uniontown. The cantata is a contemporary, upbeat musical telling the birth of Jesus. It includes original songs coupled with traditional carols that invite audience participation. A new, combined children’s choir will join the cantata. Admission is free. Pictured are, front row, from left, Barbara Cramer, Lisa Rucker, Miranda Ellis and Aisha Greenfield; second row, Terrance Jackson, Sharon Brown and Mary Kay Milliken. The women are members of a sextet singing “Soli Deo Gloria,’’ a selection from the cantata and Jackson is choir director of St. Paul’s and will be the soloist on the song “Infant Heart of God.’’
