Apple-deep in buckwheat

Thomas Myers scoops a basket full of apple that were used to make apple cider at the 60th annual Buckwheat and Pancake Supper. The Ohiopyle-Stewart Volunteer Fire Department held its annual event on Friday and Saturday. The department served and estimated 5,000 people over the two-day event.

Truck crashes into church

A North Carolina man just starting a new career as a truck driver could not have asked for a worse first day.

Veterans stage courthouse rally

Dozens of veterans and their supporters rallied Friday in front of the Fayette County Courthouse to show support for stability in the county veterans affairs office.



Fish kill probe continues

A West Virginia environmental agency believes a golden algae bloom is connected to the massive fish kill in Dunkard Creek, while a Pennsylvania environmental agency said discharges from at least one West Virginia coal mine led to the algae bloom.



Officer cited for harassment

Pittsburgh bus riders face facts of security

Resort to pamper dignitaries

FARMINGTON - While numerous dignitaries attending the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh this week will be staying at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa, most people in the area likely won't even know the international guests are there.



At least three people suffered serious injuries when two vehicles collided head-on on Route 40 in Redstone Township at 3:08 p.m. Monday. Emergency officials said that three helicopters were summoned to the scene to take injured motorists from the crash to local hospitals. The identities of the motorists involved in the crash and their conditions were not immediately available. Fayette County 911 said volunteer firefighters from Allison 1, Republic and New Salem joined emergency personnel from Fayette EMS and the state police at the crash. Election board to review city vote

Fayette County Commissioner Vincent Zapotosky has called for a meeting of the county election board to determine how an election for a Uniontown City Council office could be conducted.



Budget work grinds ahead

Local legislators are optimistic that a 2009-10 state budget will be adopted in the next couple weeks, although some of the details apparently still need worked out.
