A Donora woman is facing charges after animal control officers discovered a dead dog and other malnourished dogs allegedly found in her home.

A human society police officer with the Washington County Humane Society filed charges of two count of aggravated cruelty to animals and four counts of neglect of animals against Andra Dyan Montero, 39, before Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson on Monday.

The charges stem from an incident where Donora Police responded to Montero’s home along McKean Avenue about a dead dog inside the house on July 23.

An animal control officer contacted Montero the next day and made arrangements for the dogs to be brought to the humane society including the dog named “Henry” that was found dead in the house.

A veterinarian examined “Henry” and found that he showed no signs of illness as the dog was emaciated and his bladder was completely void of fluid.

A second dog, known as “Bear”, was also very thin, missing most of his hair and was covered in sores.

Four other dogs named “Abby”, “Chewy”, “Tito” and “Bella” also showed signs of food deprivation.

The criminal complaint states that the dogs were fed and monitored by the veterinarian.

A summons has been issued for Montero to appear for a preliminary hearing scheduled at 9 a.m. Sept. 19 at Wilson’s office.
