Friday Night Lights: Red Raiders tame Scotties

ALVERTON- The Uniontown Red Raiders (4-1, 5-3) certainly weren't looking past the Southmoreland Scotties on Friday night. The Red Raiders rolled to a 37-0 halftime lead on the way to a 44-14 Keystone Conference win.
    The Red Raiders scored on six of their first seven possessions, and then added a touchdown on the second half kickoff as they prepared for the season finale at home against rival Laurel Highlands.
    Ron Skinner scored on a 4-yard run, Jake Forsythe added a 23-yard touchdown run, and Arnold Walker went 23 yards to the end zone for a 21-0 lead. Lucas Mosco added a 37-yard field goal before Walker scored again on a 3-yard run, and Forsythe scored on a 2-yard run.
    Fred Johnson returned the third quarter kickoff 95 yards to the end zone to end Uniontown's scoring.
    Southmoreland (0-5, 0-8) scored on a 3-yard run by Dakota Datz and a 5-yard run by Austin DeWitt to complete the scoring.        
Greensburg Salem 42, Laurel Highlands 6
There was no doubt who the No, 1 team in the Keystone Conference was Friday night as Greensburg Salem remained perfect at 5-0 to clinch the section title with a dominating win over Laurel Highlands.
In the first half the Golden Lions(7-1) racked up 317 yards, 16 first downs and 42 points, while their defense held the Mustangs (3-2,3-5) to five possessions that ended in four three-and-outs and one turnover.
The Golden Lions leapt on the Mustangs from the get go, marching 68 yards on 14 plays with  quarterback Nate Sphon's touchdown run icing the drive for a 7-0 lead with 6:55 left in the first quarter and never looked back.

Derry 28, Albert Gallatin 14
The Colonials (3-5, 2-4) had their playoff hopes dashed on the road by Derry 3-5, 3-2).
Albert Gallatin scored first as Cody Peebles ran 1 yard in the first quarter before Derry scored twice to take a 13-7 lead.
The Colonials regained the lead before the half as Peebles hits Jarrod Dotson with a 33-yard scoring strike, and Shaun Smearcheck's kick put AG on top 14-13.
Derry iced it with a pair of third-quarter scores as the defenses dominated play the rest of the way.
Peebles completed seven of 18 passes with one interception as Dotson pulled in four for 42 yards.
Grayling Sanders was the Colonials' top rusher with 37 yards on 13 carries.

East Allegheny 42, Brownsville 0
NORTH VERSAILLES - East Allegheny scored on each of its five first-half possessions and cruised to an Interstate Conference win over visiting Brownsville at EA's Churchman Stadium.
Poor field possession and eight first-half penalties contributed to the Falcons' seventh consecutive loss, and third consecutive shutout. Brownsville managed 38 yards rushing and one yard passing and recorded its initial first down at 5:06 of the second quarter.
Unable to sustain any offense and unable to stop the Wildcats, Brownsville (1-7, 1-7) coach Von Braddock noted that only 13 Falcons were at practice Wednesday, due to sickness, and 23 were in uniform last night. "When you miss practice, and have that many players missing practice, that's what happens," Braddock said. "But it's still no excuse for the way we played. We played undisciplined and were unable to make any plays. We missed every assignment, offensively and defensively. We only have four seniors on the roster and have been playing nine freshmen. We're young, but it's time to make the plays."
In winning its first game of the season, East Allegheny (1-7, 1-7) piled p 140 yards rushing and 171 passing. EA was led by quarterback Jody Harris, who opened the scoring with a one-yard run in the first quarter and tossed touchdown passes of 25 yards to Rarji Neal and 48 yards to Delvinn Coleman. Brownsville was led by sophomore running back Tre' Hall with 36 yards on 11 carries.
Brownsville will conclude its regular season next Friday at Waynesburg Central.

Jefferson-Morgan 21, California 20
COAL CENTER - In a crucial Tri-County South football match-up that featyred the conference's top two offenses in Jefferson-Morgan and California, it was defense and special teams that was the deciding factor as the Rockets pulled out a one-point victory Friday night.
Jefferson-Morgan (6-2, 4-2) holds third place in the conference and clinched a WPIAL playoff berth with the road win.
California (4-4, 3-3) drops its third straight section contest and now is in a battle for the final postseason spot with Carmichaels (3-5, 3-3).
In Week 9, the Trojans travel to first place Monessen, while the Mikes venture out to West Greene with both teams needing a win and even more.
Coming into the game, the Rockets scored a conference high 210 points, followed by the Trojans' offense that compiled 192 points.
Senior Ryan Knight rushed for two touchdowns and caught a 17-yard pass from junior quarterback Brandon Kozich for the game tying touchdown with 1:01 left in the game. Senior kicker Taylor Barchiesi made the all-decisive PAT for the 21-20 lead.
California's senior signal collar D.J. Martinak had a touchdown pass and a touchdown run for the Trojans while sophomore tailback Dylan Hunter added a 33-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Beth-Center 61, West Greene 0
Beth-Center kicked it in high gear Friday night as six different players scored touchdowns in its Tri-County South Conference shutout of West Greene.
The win clinched a playoff berth and second place in the Tri-County South Conference for the Bulldogs ((6-2,5-1).
West Greene fell to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Jake Sofran led the way with three scores on runs of 1, 4 and 11 yards.
Deshan Brown added a pair as he pulled in a 6-yard pass from Sal Faieta for the first and ran 23 yards for the second.
Jordan Kinder opened the scoring with a five-yard burst, before Kyle Colborn scored on a 1-yard burst.  He also kicked 5 PATs.
Chuck Bowser added a score on a on an 18-yard run, and Mike Knox capped the scoring with a 33-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Kinder as the Bulldogs' leading rusher with 107 yards on nine carries, while Lamar Bell stood out on defense with two interceptions.
Geibel Catholic 28, Mapletown 14
Christian Henckel ran scored three touchdowns on his way to a 220-yard performance as Geibel Catholic downed Mapletown 28-14 in Tri-County South action Friday.
Mapletown (1-7, 1-5) opened the scoring when Cory Minnick connected with Jarrett Porterfield on a 2-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Minnick found Porterfield on a 36-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Minnick finished with 137 yards on 9-24 passing and Porterfield had four catches for 55 yards.
Geibel (3-5, 2-4) scored 28 consecutive points to take control of the game, starting with Henckel's first score of 59 yards. Hundell Caldwell scored on a 29-yard run to give the Gators its first lead at 14-8. Caldwell finished with 176 yards on 22 carries. Geibel finished with 432 yards on 58 rushes.
McGuffey 34, Waynesburg Central 0
Both teams started slow as McGuffey led 3-0 after one quarter of play, but the Highlanders scored 14 points in the second quarter to pull away and secure an Interstate Conference win.
Nick Shuman scored a pair of touchdowns for McGuffey (6-2, 6-2) as Derrick Whipkey threw a pair of scores.
Waynesburg Central drops to 2-6 overall and in the conference.

Monessen 41, Carmichaels 7
Monessen led 14-0 after a quarter and never let off the gas en route to a Tri-County South win at Carmichaels.
The Greyhounds (6-2, 6-0) added a touchdown in each of the next two quarters and capped the scoring with 15 in the fourth.
Carmichaels (3-5, 3-3) ruined the shutout bid in the fourth with a touchdown.

Serra Catholic 25, Frazier 0
Rob Heatherington scored two touchdowns as Serra Catholic posted a shutout over Blackhills Conference foe Frazier.
Kyle Taylor and Josh Moody also scored touchdowns on the ground for Serra Catholic (7-1, 5-1).
Frazier drops to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Women's tennis
Waynesburg 1, Thiel 0 - Courtney Ebersole scored the lone goal as Waynesburg tallied 30 shots on goal in a President's Athletic Conference win on Senior Night.
Heidi Weaver assisted on the Waynesburg (6-10, 2-4) goal as Katrina Kelly only faced one shot to record her second shutout of the season.
Thiel drops to 2-13-2 overall and 0-6 in PAC games.
