Torres

A Vanderbilt man was placed in the Fayette County Prison after he was charged with raping a woman in her sleep over the weekend.

Daniel Angel Torres, 30, of 259 Liberty St. admitted to having sex with the 21-year-old woman while she "was asleep and unaware of what was occurring," according to an arrest affidavit filed by state police Trooper Sandra M. Soliday.

The woman told police that the alleged assault occurred between 7 and 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

The Herald-Standard does not identify alleged victims in cases that involve sex crimes.

The woman went to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville to report the alleged assault, according to court paperwork.

While she was there, Torres showed up claiming to be her fiance, and started coughing up blood, police said.

When Soliday arrived at the hospital, she said hospital personnel were treating Torres.

The woman told police that she sleeps soundly, and has been exhausted lately because she works two jobs and cares for her young son.

Torres was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis, who committed him to prison after he failed to post 10 percent of a $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Dwight Shaner.
