East End group to host block party

The East End Concerned Citizens' Group will host a block party Tuesday at the corner of Coolspring Street and Collins Avenue in Uniontown from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to celebrate National Night Out.

The purpose of the event, which is held in towns across the county, is to increase community police partnerships and awareness of neighborhood watch efforts.

According to the National Association of Town Watch, over 35 million people are expected to participate in event.

Also joining in hosting the block party are Target, a national sponsor of the event, Uniontown Mayor Ed Fike's office and the Uniontown Redevelopment Authority.

Food, entertainment, educational activities, police and community programs, and more will be presented. Domestic Violence Services, city police, state police, and the Uniontown Fire Department will host informational and interactive booths.

Revamped Youth Group will provide games and entertainment. Face painting, balloon artists, and music will also be presented.

The East End Concerned Citizens' Group is a grassroots initiative led by residents, property owners, and community leaders.
