MARKLEYSBURG -- Stoystown's Ron Delano, Jr. won his first Jack's Recycling Center Super Late Model feature while Bobby Cossell of Connellsville won his career first feature in the Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Models Saturday night at Roaring Knob.
Deana Groves (Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modifieds), Todd Dennis (Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stocks) and Marty Spade, Jr. (TC Race Car Parts Chargers) were all repeat winners. It was also the second race in the Elkins/Roaring Knob Shootout Series for the Super Lates, FASTRAK and Mods.
Todd Dennis started on the front row of the 15-lap Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stock feature. Dennis took the lead at the drop of the green and never let up on his way to his sixth feature win of the season.
A restart on lap 13 saw Jim Bendishaw, Jr. give it one last shot before settling for the runner-up spot. Scott Spade came home third over Bob Nelson, Chris Lucy, Mike Duritsky, Scott Herring, Charlie McClain, Bob Miller and Ace Howdershelt. Bendishaw and Dennis scored the heat wins.
The "Farmington Flyer," Marty Spade, Jr., shot from his third starting spot in the TC Race Car Parts Charger feature to take the lead on lap one. Spade led all 12 laps, but had pressure from Kyle Burkholder for the final nine. JT Baird was third ahead of Justin Howell, Kenny Burkholder, Shawn Smith, Bus Matthews, Brad Jenkins, CJ Nicola and Eric Miller. Smith and Kenny Burkholder were the heat winners.
There was another first-time winner in the 20-lap Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Model A-Main, as second generation driver Bobby Cossell led from the start with three-time winner Rick Strickler on his back bumper.
Dan Angelicchio and John Over soon joined them to make it a four-car battle at the front. Cossell was able to pull away slightly as Strickler and Angelicchio fought for second. They closed in on Cossell in lapped traffic, but once he cleared it he drove on to win his career first feature win.
He became the eighth different winner in FASTRAK competition at the Knob. Strickler, Angelicchio, Over and Ricky Meglaye were the top five. Sixth through tenth were Troy Shields, Mike Lewis, Kevin Keene, Paul Dominick (in Chris Angelicchio's No. 4) and Billy Stile III.
Heat victories went to Over and Meglaye.
Heat winner Danny Pugh grabbed the lead at the drop of the green in the 25-lap Jack's Recycling Center Super Late Model feature. Pugh, who had to have his No. 43 re-clipped, led until lap four when Ron Delano, Jr. was able to get around him.
Delano then began to run away from the pack in his backup car. It appeared like Delano was going to run away with it, but sixth-starting Mason Zeigler had other ideas, as he took over second on lap 11.
In a race that went non-stop, Zeigler reeled Delano in and gave it his best shot. Delano held on for his first of the season at the Knob, while Zeigler finished a career-best second. Billy Holbert, Bob Gordon, Mel Minnick, Jr., Jeff Ferguson, Danny Pugh, LC Powers, Mark Booth and Nick Corley completed the top 10. Holbert was the other heat winner.
Heat winner Deana Groves dominated the 15-lap Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modified feature. Groves won her fourth of the season by a half lap over Bobby Bennett. Nick Cramer, Josh Cramer and Nathan Baker rounded out the top five.
Saturday's schedule has Street Stocks Twin 10's plus Super Late Models, FASTRAK Late Models, Modifieds and Chargers.
