Uniontown's 1981 team bridged championship gap

The year 1981 was special in Uniontown and around Uniontown High School.

Just about everything pointed to the Red Raiders ending a 17-year drought of PIAA basketball championships. Despite the pressure of being favored to win the title, Uniontown went 32-2 and brought home WPIAL and PIAA titles. It was the fourth and most recent of Uniontown's state titles.

Rohanna remains in the hunt at Tullymore Classic

Take away the one over-par hole Rachel Rohanna had in the second round of the Tullymore Classic and the she would be tied with Giulia Molinaro and Chie Arimura atop the leaderboard.

Rohanna finished with a 2-under 70 Saturday in the inaugural event on the Symetra Tour and sits two strokes off the lead with a 9-under 135 entering today’s third and final round. The Waynesburg Central graduate is tied for sixth.

Rohanna shoots 65, tied for second after first round

Rachel Rohanna was cruising right along in Friday’s first round of the inaugural Tullymore Classic, right up to the final hole.

Still, the Waynesburg Central graduate had a pretty good day at the Tullymore Golf Club, finishing with a 7-under 65. Rohanna is tied in second place with Japan’s Chie Arimura, one stroke behind American Danielle Iocabella.

Belle Vernon Legion wins two from Colonial

Belle Vernon picked up a couple wins Thursday night, winning a suspended game in 11 innings, 6-5, and then coming back for a 7-0 victory in the scheduled game against visiting Colonial 3 in Fayette American Legion Baseball League action.

Connellsville had only five hits, but made the most of the limited offense for a 4-3 victory Wednesday night against visiting Belle Vernon in Fayette American Legion Baseball League action.

Time just flying by

(Perhaps the days seem to be floating by because the weather has been so monotonous. The graphics people on TV barely have to change the forecast. And, "floating by" is appropriate because that daily forecast seems to be rain, rain and more rain with occasional bursts of sunshine.)

Rohanna has tough time in final round

Rachel Rohanna wasn't able to get rolling in Sunday's final round of the Island Resort at Sweetgrass Golf Club, finishing with a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 69th place.

The Waynesburg Central graduate had a three-round total of 7-over 223 after shooting 72 in the first round and 75 in the second round.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished with a 3-over 75 with five birdies, six bogeys and one double bogey, but will play in today's final round at Sweetgrass Golf Club after finishing with a two-round score of 3-over 147.
