They say the best moms get promoted to "Grandmas."
And that is exactly what happened to my Mom this year.
In October my brother, David and his wife had their first child, giving my parents their first grandson. Pride along with tears of joy poured from my Mother's face. The honor of being promoted to Grandma was well deserved. You see she worked hard and sacrificed a lot when she was just known as "mom."
You see my mom was a stay-at-home mom when my brother and I were growing up. It's the hardest job in the world. She would be up before school, making breakfast, sending us to school, spent the day cleaning , cooking and running us around to a number of activities, and never ever stopping. All the while she was doing chores, she was really showing us what it means to work hard, sacrifice and go out of your way for others.
When we were in! high school, my mom went back to work but didn't stop teaching us.
She's always been there with a shoulder to cry on, advice to make things better, and a joke to make you smile.
Soon we were off to college and out of the house for good. It's not easy for a mom to live 3 hours from her kids and grandson. But when it comes to my mom she never lets the distance get in between all of us. Instead she makes us all feel closer with an extra card just letting us know that she's thinking of us, or an extra call to make sure we are doing okay.
Oh and we do come home, there is always an extra batch of her world-famous French toast and big hug waiting for us. I think that's what got her the big promotion to Grandma! It's only appropriate for the best mom in the World, Susan Braum.
