The Mountain Citizen Action Group has a birthday celebration the last Thursday of each month. On July 28, Susie Myers and Duane Weltz were the only two at the birthday table. Missing were Flora Mere Humbert, Sharon Jenkins, Debbie Mills and Ida Wable. The birthday cake, provided by Joanna and Carl Bontrager, was enjoyed by all.

Ken Seifert from Henry Clay Villa was welcomed as a new member.

Mary Barr had recent visitors, Carl and Kathy Barr from the eastern Pennsylvania, who always visit the center’s little flea market when here. Carl, Mary’s son, retired from teaching this year and is an avid reader. He found books at the flea market.

Pat Lin, who sends out the cards, requested donations of new cards, including Get Well, Thinking of You, etc.

Lunch at the center is served on Thursdays. To make reservations, call Traci at 724-329-4216.

Some new faces would be welcomed at Friday evening bingo. The kitchen opens at 6 p.m. Early birds start at 6:30 p.m. and regular bingo at 7.

School reunion

The 23rd one-room, two-room school reunion was held at the Mountain Citizen Action Group Senior Center on July 17. Beverly Diehl, secretary, and Audrey Savage coordinated the registration of 87 attendees from six states.

President Sonny Glisan gave the welcome and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Bill Tissue entertained by singing and playing the guitar. The entire group sang “School Days.” A roll call of schools indicated that 65 different schools have been represented through the years. A donation can was passed to help defray the costs.

Pastor Bill Rodeheaver gave the blessing. A covered-dish meal was served.

Nancy Koontz won the prize for guessing the number of candies in a jar. First cousins Genevieve Ault, 90, and Wade Fike, 95, won prizes for being the oldest woman and man present. They were also the oldest at last year’s reunion.

Other information learned: Pastor William Rodeheaver, who will be 91 years old in October, and his wife, Naomi, have been married for 72 years and in the ministry for 61 years.
