Eight seniors from the Mountain Citizen Action Group traveled with bus driver Maxine Anderson Aug. 17 to IHOP, Kohl’s, Century III Mall, Olive Garden and Dairy Queen.
Aug. 18 was a full day at the senior center. Patty and Holly from Amedisys took blood pressures. Carol Ashton from Interfaith Care Givers gave an informative talk about the organization, its purposes and free services.
It was eye opening to learn that the second largest elderly group in the United States is in this area. Volunteers from Interfaith served 803 clients in 2010, and have 100 new clients so far this year. Services, which are faith based, are free and include things such as medical transport, grocery shopping, minor home repairs and listening. Although there are 189 volunteers, more are needed. If interested in being a volunteer, call Carol at 724-438-0709.
A picnic lunch followed the speaker. Thirty-six, including visitor Gage Glover, were signed up for lunch, and the majority then played bingo for wrapped prizes.
