Plava fundraiser
Tickets are available for the George J. Plava Elementary School toy and cash bash to be held on Nov. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the All Saints Social Hall. To purchase tickets or for more information, call 724 439-4654 or 724 434-5164.
Truck sale
A frozen food sale will be held at the Masontown Elementary School on Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Debit or credit cards, cash, checks or EBT Cards will be accepted. The public is invited to attend.
Big breakfast
The 6th annual Big Breakfast will be held at St. Mary’s Church Hall in Leckrone today from 9 a.m. to noon. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, fruit cup, coffee or juice. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. The public is invited to attend.
Choir concert
The Youghiogheny Western Baptist Benefit Mass Choir will hold its 14th Musical Concert. It will be held at the YWBA Christian Center, Duck Hollow Road, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Saturday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
The Rev. William C. Callaway, pastor of Mount Olive First Baptist Church, Clairton, is the master of ceremonies. The Rev. Mary Baker, pastor of Union Baptist Church, New Salem, is the moderator and Sister Joyce Tracy Wade of the Beulah Baptist Church, Smithfield, is the chairperson and director of the choir.
The service will include a memorial tribute to Sister Carmella Thomas, who was a member of the choir.
Donation is $7 and tickets can be purchased at the door. The public is invited.
Library news
There is one week remaining in fine amnesty month. Overdue materials may still be returned to the library with no fines and no questions asked through Oct. 31.
Unfortunately, amnesty will not be applied to materials that have already been given to the magistrate. Return your materials soon to avoid those late fines!
Be sure to attend Spooky Saturday. German-Masontown Public Library will show the classic movie, “The Uninvited” at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Popcorn will be provided.
Wii game…do you? Teens, adults, and seniors are welcome to come to the library on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. beginning in November for fun with the Nintendo Wii game system.
Post prom
A meeting will be held on Oct. 27 for the Class of 2012 Post Prom Committee at the AGHS Café. Parents of Seniors are encouraged to attend.
Reminders
The next Masontown Community Kitchen meal will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The meal will be spaghetti with meat sauce, tossed salad, Panera garlic breads and desserts. The Community Kitchen is located in the First Presbyterian Church at 102 W. Church Ave.
The Pals’ Club Social Ladies will hold a turkey bingo on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
A dinner dance sponsored by Masontown Matters will be held on Nov. 12. Check the website for more information.
Parade
The 2011 Masontown Spooktacular Halloween Parade and Event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29. Lineup begins at 5 p.m. in the Parkvale Bank parking lot with the parade beginning at 6 p.m.
The parade route is down Main Street to Virginia Avenue and then down to the German-Masontown Park. More details can be found on the website, masontownmatters.org.
Book club to meet
The Frazier Community Library Book Club will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the library. The book for discussion is “State of Wonder” by Ann Patchett. New members are invited to attend. Please call the library at 724-736-8480 for more information.
