Everyone at the library enjoyed Saturday’s event, “Santa’s Workshop.” The library wishes to thank the library board of directors and Friends of the German-Masontown Public Library for their help in running this event for our preschool to second grade patrons. The children enjoyed the stories, crafts, cookies and special visit from Santa Claus.

In January, our preschool storytime moves from Wednesday to Tuesday. Starting Jan. 4, Storytime will begin at 10:30 a.m., and occur every Tuesday at that time. Be sure to check the new presentation, called “How To…” Every month you can learn a different skill. Since January is National Get Organized Month, this month’s skill is “How to Get Organized.” Stop by the library at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, to pick up a few organizational tips.

If you are in the habit of making year-end charitable donations, please consider a tax-deductible donation to the German-Masontown Public Library, 104 S. Main St., Masontown, PA 15461. The library serves a great many residents and provides a much-needed service to the community. Thank you.

Community Kitchen

The next Masontown Community Kitchen meal will be held Tuesday. The dinner will be homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes, succotash, Panera breads and desserts. The public is invited to attend and share the fellowship and hospitality always found there. The meals are free to anyone in need but donations are gratefully welcomed and accepted and provide for future meals.

The Community Kitchen serves between 4 and 6:30 p.m. every other Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church at 102 W. Church Ave., Masontown, Pa. The soup kitchen is operated by volunteers from the area’s churches and the Klondike Clergy Association. Information about the Community Kitchen may be obtained by calling Judy Julian at 724-943-3013 or Kathy West at 724-583-9514.

Reminders

n This year Masontown Borough residents can enter a house-decorating contest being sponsored by Masontown Matters. Borough residents that wish to participate must have their houses decorated for Christmas and their registrations sent to Masontown Matters by Dec. 15.

An independent committee will judge the houses anytime during 6-9 p.m. from Dec. 16 through Dec. 23. Registrations that include name, address, phone number, and email address (if available) of the entrant may be mailed to Masontown Matters, P.O. Box 307 Masontown, PA 15461 or by visiting our website at www.masontownmatters.org and completing the online house decorating registration form.

n Masontown Matters is holding a Valentine’s Dinner Dance at the Italian Club in Masontown Feb. 9. Dinner will be catered by Silver Bar. “The Vibrations” will be providing the music. They will be playing slow, rock, and oldies or polka only on request. Cost is $20 per person. Tickets are available from Masontown Matters members.

Senior Center

All Saints Children’s Choir will perform Monday at the center. On Dec. 19, WVU will sponsor a Fall Preventative Program. Elaine Kovak will do a Christmas program Dec. 20 and a New Year’s Eve celebration will be Dec. 31.

A new Wii competition of four teams will continue along with dartball. The group enjoys balloon darts twice a month along with bingo and other activities.

January will chase away the winter blues with a Chronic Lung disease/COPD program and YTRAP DRAWKCAB Jan. 30. Guess you will have to visit to find out what that means. Jan. 31 has members enjoying a virtual trip to Spain.

February begins Lent and a Friday Fried Dough sale. Call 724-583-7822 to order your fried dough or for more information concerning the Masontown Senior Center.

Trash day

The Masontown Borough Council would like to remind residents that the new trash pickup day will be Thursdays, beginning Dec. 13. All trash must be in the designated areas by 5 a.m.
