If you have any genealogical or historical questions, the Connellsville Area Historical Society will be available in their new office in the Connell Room where the rare and historical books are located during the grand opening event. The grand opening of the Connellsville Area Historical Museum will be open to the public for its inaugural public viewing. Visitors of the museum can discover, through self-exploration, important historical, industrial, cultural, celebratory, celebrities and the future of Connellsville by investigating information panels. Of course, visitors can also view historical artifacts in the display cases. This local historical museum was made possible through collaborative efforts of the Connellsville Area Historical Society and the Carnegie Free Library of Connellsville. The funding for the creation of this museum was made possible through the Laurel Highlands Visitor’s Bureau Tourism Grant Program, Seed Award from the Sprout Fund of Pittsburgh and the Community Foundation of Fayette County Growth Fund.

The teen and adult free etiquette workshops will be taught by Mother, May I (MMI), a company developed by Demetria Pappas and Lisa Iadicicco graduates of Purdue University. The two felt there was a need for instruction on manners in our fast-paced society. The program designed for the Carnegie Free Library will cover mealtime manners, making introductions and proper use of technology-(past, present and modern). All of these topics will be connected to how they are a demonstration of our character. MMI teaches that the person in front of you is the most important person at that moment. Active listening is a manner that many of us are not applying to our everyday lives.

In addition to the 110th Birthday Bash, the friends of the library will host their second annual Bike for Books fundraising event on Saturday, June 1 at the Youghiogheny River Park. Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. The event is a non-competitive, family affair. There is a donation required to participate. A bike rodeo for kids ages 4-12 will also be held this day from 10 a.m. to noon. A light lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. This year, if an organization or business has the highest percentage of members that participate, they will win a traveling trophy and special publicity.
