Parent visitation

The Albert Gallatin Board of Education, superintendent, central administration, principals and faculty welcome you to visit our schools for parent conferences from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Dec. 3. Schools will be closed.

Kitchen open

American Legion Post 423 on Route 21 will have its kitchen open to the public until further notice. Kitchen hours are Friday, 4-9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eat-in or take-out meals are available. Call 724-583-2353 for more information or to place an order.

Christmas house decorating contest

Masontown borough residents can enter the house decorating contest being sponsored by Masontown Matters. Borough residents who wish to participate must have their houses decorated for Christmas and their registrations sent to Masontown Matters by Dec. 15. An independent committee will judge the houses anytime during 6-9 p.m. from Dec. 18-22. Three winners will be awarded a cash prize on Dec. 28. First prize: $100, second prize: $75 and third prize: $50. Registrations that include name, address, phone number and email address (if available) of the entrant may be mailed to Masontown Matters, P.O. Box 307, Masontown, Pa. 15461 or by visiting our website at www.masontownmatters.org and completing the online house decorating registration form.

Any member of Masontown Matters is precluded from entering the contest.

Blood drive

A blood drive will be held Dec. 2 in memory of Adam George Morris from 1-7 p.m. at the Masontown United Methodist Church social hall, 4 W. Cross Ave.

Italian Ladies Circle

The Masontown Italian Ladies Circle will hold their Christmas meeting at 6 p.m Dec. 4 at the Italian Club Hall. A catered dinner will be served, and reservations must be made by Nov. 26 by calling Teresa or Lydia.

Dues for 2014 must be paid before the December meeting. No dues will be accepted the night of the Christmas party.

Christmas remembrance service

At 5 p.m. Dec. 1 the John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home of Masontown will dedicate a special service to the families of those who have lost a loved one during the past year. A Christmas Tree of Remembrance will be displayed in our main hallway adorned with a dove in memory of each person who has died since Christmas of 2012. Complimentary angels and candles will be available. A Christmas angel ornament will also be presented to the family of each honored deceased. The Rev. William G. Berkey will deliver the eulogy, and the Rev. Randy Byers the invocation and benediction. The St. Francis of Assisi Parish Choir will offer favorite Christmas carols.

Thanksgiving service

The Klondike Clergy Association is sponsoring a Community Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Mennonite Church.

Pal’s Ladies

The Pal’s Club Social Ladies Auxiliary will hold their Christmas party beginning at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 in the club social hall. Admission is $5. Reservations must be made by Nov. 30 by calling 724-583-9596.

Family and Community Day

The Albert Gallatin High School Library and the SIG Council are hosting a “Family and Community Day” on Dec. 3 in the Albert Gallatin High School Library. This event will be held in conjunction with the annual parent/teacher conferences. Parents and guardians are invited to attend an MMS Parent Portal workshop. Attendees are invited to browse the Scholastic Book Fair. Santa will make a surprise visit from 5-8 p.m.

Community kitchen

The Masontown Community Kitchen will serve a Thanksgiving dinner from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday. The meal will be roasted turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, vegetables, Panera breads and pumpkin pie. The event is held in the First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Church Ave. Hot meals are free and served every other Tuesday.

Smithfield library

The Smithfield Public Library will be open Nov. 30 during Smithfield Light-Up Night. Drop in for a “Meet & Greet” of local teen author, Brandi Sumey.

FCLS Reading Circle

The FCLS Reading Circle will meet in the Smithfield Public Library at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 27. Book for discussion is “Precious Blood” by Tonya Hurley.

German-Masontown Library

Come join us for the Monday Movie at 4:30 p.m. Preschool story time is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Ages three to five are welcome. Our GED class will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The library will be closed Wednesday and Thursday and Nov. 28.

The Germam-Masontown Library will host a Rocking Reindeer Christmas Party for children ages 3-8 on Dec. 7. Space is limited.
