World Book Night, Wednesday, Carnegie Free Library, Connellsville. As part of the national event, the library will be giving away 20 free copies of “Hoot” by Carl Hiaasen. Call the library to reserve a copy in advance. Reservations: 724-628-1380.

n Flenniken Public Library free computer classes, Using a Mouse on Wednesday, Microsoft Vista on Wednesday, Beginning Internet on April 30 and Microsoft Word 2007 on May 7. n Scripture Weekend Retreat, 7:30 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. April 27, Mount St. Macrina House of Prayer, Uniontown. The event will be presented by the Rev. Daniel Forsythe. There is a fee to attend. Registration is due by April 21. Information: 724-438-7149.

n Autism Society Oldies Dance, Saturday, West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m., buffet from 6:30-8 p.m. and dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. n Fayette County Sunday School Convention, May 2-3, Indian Creek Baptist Church. The theme is teaching “Jesus, the Only Way.” The convention will include guest speakers, children’s bell choir, election and installation of officers and more.

East End United Community Center calendar party, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, at the community center. Information: 724-437-1660.

n The R4 Project’s CD release party, 5 p.m. Saturday, Butte Ballroom, 856 Bute Road, West Leisenring. Doors open 4:30 p.m. Additional bands include Brandon Ozorowski, Emily Eutsey, No Loose Endz and Nitrate. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the West Leisenring Volunteer Fire Department. n Costume Jewelry Collection, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3, 10 and 17, German-Masontown Library, 104 S. Main St., Masontown. The library is also seeking donations of unwanted, unbroken costume jewelry. Donations can be dropped off during regular library hours.

n Masontown Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4, Masontown Fire Hall, 221 N. Washington St., Masontown.

n Monessen Knights of Columbus spaghetti dinner, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4, at the Knights of Columbus Senior Center, 1925 Grand Boulevard, Monessen. Meals include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, coffee/soda and dessert. Eat-in or takeout is available. Information: 724-684-7394.

n Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Fayette County Perennial Plant Sale, 9 a.m. to noon May 10, Fayette County Fairgrounds, 4-H Youth Building. There will also be a lecture and demonstration at 10:30 a.m. by a master gardener. Orders of Oglevee geraniums and hanging baskets are currently being accepted. Various items will be for sale, including books, housewares, vintage items, holiday items, small appliances and more. Proceeds will benefit the member recreation and education fund.
