Uniontown Area School Board purchases communication system

By Natalie Bruzda nbruzda@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

Uniontown Area School Board on Tuesday approved to purchase a school messenger communication system to keep parents and guardians of students in the district abreast of a variety of issues.

Business Manager Jill Regan said the system can send an unlimited number of phone calls, emails and text messages to inform parents of school cancellations, delays, emergencies, cafeteria payments and updates concerning athletic and school events.

Daniel Bosnic, assistant to the superintendent, said the system can also alert a parent if his or her child is not at school.

Regan said it’s crucial for students and parents to ensure that contact information is up-to-date.

The district will enter into a three-year contract with the system, beginning in June 2015, at a cost of $1.75 per student. The system will be implemented beginning in January. However, the first six months are at no cost to the district.

Also Tuesday, the board:

n Hired Kayla R. Hazel as a special education teacher assigned to the Uniontown Area High School.

n Scheduled a safety and security meeting to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.
