WHARTON TWP. — Supervisors unanimously voted to approve the township’s 2015 budget during Monday’s regular meeting.

For the 40th straight year, property taxes will remain the same at 0.347 mills. This equates to $34.70 in taxes for every $100,000 of the assessed property value.

The township’s property taxes remain the lowest of the county’s 24 townships, according to Supervisor Joe Henning. The property taxes haven’t been changed since 1975.

Supervisors said this year’s budget expenditures will be $1,530,415 while the revenue will be $1,551,039, both up almost $200,000 from last year.

As in year’s past, the largest expenditures remain highways, roads and streets at $965,940. The largest revenue will be $870,764 for intergovernmental revenue, $500,000 of which will be from the casino.

“The casino money that we do get is put into a separate account from all other money. Everything that’s taken out of the casino money is registered,” said vice chairman Jack Lewis, adding that anyone can come to the municipal building to inquire about the funding.

“That’s the money we’re budgeting to bring in next year,” said township secretary Carrie Morrison, adding that it’s a hopeful number.

“We’ve been spending more than was coming in for quite a while. And now that the casino is here — we’re basically replacing what we were losing,” said Henning. “Everybody that comes in here has a different idea of where that money should go.”

Lewis said the supervisors are there to represent the township and will budget the casino money to the best of their knowledge.

Supervisors also discussed the township’s annual light-up night that is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Supervisor Jim Means said there will be hot chocolate, assorted cookies and a bonfire.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
