Give-A-Christmas fund grows slowly
Sparkle, the Christmas star is feeling blue as funds to the Herald-Standard’s Give-A-Christmas fund continue to come in at a slow rate.
Today’s total is $$7,651 after $75 was donated by readers. They included Fred and Wanda Kolonsky of Uniontown and Christ United Methodist Women of Uniontown, who added a note, saying, “Merry Christmas, Sparkle.”
“These donations do touch my heart, but it will be a while before I can have a Merry Christmas,” said Sparkle. “That’s because we want to raise $50,000 for the Salvation Army. We have a long way to go and a short time to get there. I’m a little worried. Please won’t you help?”
Sparkle reminded readers that donations will go to the local unit of the Salvation Army where the donor lives.
“Your local Salvation Army will only receive funds from you and your neighbors,” said Sparkle. “There is no sharing of funds.”
Contributions will continue to be received until noon on Dec. 23. The final amount raised will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard. Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
