Fayette County commissioners will likely agree to again advertise for contractors for a construction project at the regular meeting next week after it was learned the first round of advertisement did not allow sufficient time for contractors to submit their proposals.

Solicitor John Cupp advised commissioners at the agenda meeting on Tuesday that while Sleighter Engineering Inc. of Uniontown, had verbally advised participating contractors that the deadline to submit bids for the expansion of the Children and Youth Services (CYS) building had been extended, it was not publicly advertised, as required by the county code.

The building is to be expanded to allow workers now housed in another location to be relocated to the main office on Old New Salem Road.

Several bids were received by the county controllers office, but those were not opened official learned what had occurred.

Commissioner Angela M. Zimmerlink directed Cupp to pen a letter to the participating contractors explaining why their respective bids were being returned.

The commissioners agreed to consider the rejection of the original bids and the re-advertisement of the project when the board meets Dec. 16.

In other action, commissioners are also poised to take the following action at the regular meeting:

n Award a contract to Fike Chevrolet of Masontown for the leasing of a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse for the behavioral health administration at a monthly cost of $363.51 for a three-year period.

n Renew the contracts with county Constables Kim Renze, Mark Pasquale, Philip Michael, Brian Kelly and Todd Brothers for work at the booking center at an hourly salary of $15.50.

n Extend the maintenance agreement with Motorola through 2024 at an additional cost of $194,248. Roy Shipley, county emergency management agency director, said the county would save about $84,000 with the 10-year contract extension.

n Accept the resignation of Danny Berthlotte from the public defender’s office investigator position.

n Extend an agreement with Emile D. Ethridge Sr. for instruction and related materials of his “Can Emile?” program for the juvenile probation office at a cost of $1,314.

n Enter into a cooperation agreement with 22 municipalities for the county to administer the Uniform Construction Code.

n Approve an agreement with Burnett Oil to install a gas collector line across the county-owned Dunlap Creek Burnt Cabin property.

n Authorize the purchase of 31,680 grave flags from Flag Zone of Gilbertsville, at a cost of $19,000 and 1,500 grave markers from All Quality Aluminum Foundry of Smoketown, at a cost of $9,750.
