John Swearingen turns 100
John R. Swearingen of Brownsville will celebrate his 100th birthday on Wednesday.
He was married to the late Virginia Hanes, and they had three children, including Donald Swearingen, who passed away in 1948, one month after his birth.
Their other children are Sandi Swearingen, born in 1950, and Bob Swearingen, born in 1952. Bob and his wife Anne have three children, Rachel, 17, and twins Nathan and Garrett, 14.
John taught industrial arts in the Brownsville School District from 1938-55. During this time he also served three years in the United States Navy.
He was a professor at California University of Pennsylvania from 1955-75 in the Industrial Arts Department. In 1972, he served as president of the Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania (IAAP).
John is very involved with the First Christian Church in Brownsville and enjoys visiting family and friends and spending time on the computer.
