Fundraisers

n “Planes, Trains and Automobiles: A Daytrip Through Transportation History,” 12:30 p.m. today. The event brings together the KLBE Air Museum, the Lincoln Highway Experience and the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum. n The Summer Food Service Program at Brownsville Middle School temporarily concluded on July 18. Service will resume on Aug. 11 and will continue through Aug. 30.

n Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) open registration for Senior Citizens will conclude Monday at the Fayette County Community Action Food Bank, 119 North Beeson Ave., Uniontown. Staff will be available to process both new and existing participants who were unable to pick up the CSFP July food box during the regular distribution dates and time at the various locations. First prize is a weekend getaway or cash, second place prize is a gift card package and third prize is a BARC gift shop package. n Tri-County Patriot’s Youth Summer Camp, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12-14 and Aug. 19-21, Vernon C. Neal Sportsplex, 200 Dunn Ave., Washington. The camp is for youth with disabilities from ages 12 to 17. The camp will give youth with disabilities the skills they need to have fun and be independent in a summer camp setting. The event will include free food and entertainment, Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Outreach van, the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, VA Pittsburgh health-care booth and Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.

n Appalachian Community Center annual festival, 5-11 p.m. Aug. 16, Route 857 South, one mile north of the West Virginia State Line. The Steve Smith Band will perform and there will be games, prizes, live music, food, free admission and parking.

n Presby Peach Fest, 4-7 p.m. Aug. 23, New Salem Presbyterian Church, 27 South Mill St., New Salem. Tickets will be available at the door for either a pork or ham barbecue meal or hot dog meal including three sides, drink and the choice of peach dessert with ice cream. Door prizes will be drawn every 30 minutes, and guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the church’s food pantry to receive an extra door prize ticket. A bake sale will also be held. n Bullskin Township Historical Society will host a writer’s contest. The group is looking for writers who love to report and share true historical happenings. Historical stories must be limited to 650 words and be about a person, place or thing in Fayette County’s past. First prize is $100, second prize is $50 and third prize is $25. Deadline is Sept. 25. Winners will be announced Oct. 18 at the Bullskin Township Historical Society’s Heritage Days Festival. Summer reading

n Smithfield Public Library summer reading program, “Fizz! Boom! Read!” is currently taking place for pre-kindergarten through adults, at the library. n The Crime Victims’ Center of Fayette County offers age-appropriate programs on various topics that are available from ages 3 through adult. Car cruises

n Weekly Car cruises will be held from 6-9 p.m. every Friday through September at the Uniontown Shopping Center (weather permitting). Cruises also will be held every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Sonics, located across from the Uniontown Walmart (weather permitting). Disc jockey Arnie Amber will provide musical entertainment.

n Sons and Daughters of Italy first annual car show, today with a rain date of Aug. 3, Brownsville Sons of Italy, Frank Ricco Lodge 731, 16 Race St. Registration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. First 75 vehicles will receive dash plaques. Registrants will receive free pasta, and will be eligible for free door prizes and gift certificates. The afternoon will feature disc jockey Arnie Amber, a Chinese auction and wine tasting.
