Township supervisors address road opening
WHARTON TWP. — A township road is set to open this week after the bridge was replaced and the blacktop was resurfaced.
Township supervisor Jack Lewis said Cole Road was originally set to open last week following an inspection and approval from the state Department of Transportation. The meeting, however, was postponed until Tuesday.
During Monday’s regular township meeting, the supervisors discussed the weight limit, saying that it would remain at 10 tons, based on a study conducted by EarthTech Inc, the township’s engineer.
Lewis said the weight limit would ensure that heavy trucks don’t wear down the road, and cause cracks in the blacktop, as they’ve done in the past.
In other news, the supervisors also unanimously approved another Nemacolin Woodlands Resort land development plan.
A storage building will be built in the gravel lot off Smith School Road, after the entrance to Falling Rock.
Also, supervisors advised residents on Half King Colony Road in Chalkhill to call their representatives about the water project that has fallen through. Lewis said the funding for the project, which was initially approved, went to another county. He said it is unclear what will happen with the plans moving forward.
The next regular township meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
