CALIFORNIA — Borough council on Thursday focused on several personnel changes on the borough’s planning commission.

Council filled the vacancy on the five-member planning commission left by the death of former member Norm Hasbrouck last month, approving Beth Baxter to serve the rest of Hasbrouck’s term, which expires at the end of 2017.

“She’s been a very active member of our community,” Council President Patsy Alfano said of Baxter. “I think she’ll be a positive addition to the planning commission.”

Council also granted planning commission member Peter Capanna an additional term which will expire at the end of 2019.

In other business, council accepted a part-time information technology intern to help with its “E-Gov” initiative and other web-based projects. The intern, currently a student at California University of Pennsylvania, will work five hours a week for the borough at a wage not to exceed $12 per hour after already having served for the last two weeks as a trial period.

Council members approved Councilman Ryan Encapera’s request to attend a Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs conference in Gettysburg later this month at a cost not to exceed $500 in order to learn about legislative issues throughout the state. This allocation will cover Encapera’s event registration one night’s lodging.

Council also:

n Approved payment of $2280 to Scott’s Tree Service to trim trees along Union and Wood Streets.

n Noted that the borough’s Halloween parade will be held on Oct. 29. Trick-or-treat will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25.

Council’s next regular meeting will be held on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the California Municipal Building.
