Holiday fund now stands at $1,575
GOAL: $50,000
CURRENT TOTAL: $1,575
Sparkle, the Christmas star, is a little worried as only $20 came in the latest donations to the Give-A-Christmas campaign that benefits the Salvation Army. That brings the current total to $1,575.
“Ooh! We have such a long way to go to reach our goal of raising $50,000 for the Salvation Army and only three weeks to get there,” she said.
Sparkle pointed out, however, that readers have an opportunity to support the campaign through the Herald-Standard Give-A-Christmas Day that is being held in partnership with the Salvation Army from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 4.
All Herald-Standard executives, directors and other employees who volunteer will be out at 20 locations throughout the readership area, passing out newspapers to people who make contributions to the campaign.
“If you see our staff out, please stop by and make a donation,” said Sparkle. “We really want to help the Salvation Army as much as we can.”
Readers can also contribute by making on-line donations to the campaign at salvationarmywpa.org/GiveAChristmas, mailing contributions to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or bringing them to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
Donations to the campaign will be accepted until noon on Dec. 23 with the grand total announced in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.
“Remember that money donated to the campaign stays in the Herald-Standard readership area,” said Sparkle. “Donors are helping people in their own neighborhoods when they give. Won’t you make a contribution now?”
Today’s donors include Carol Fabriziani, of Newell, who gave in memory of deceased family members and in honor of her grandchildren Gage, Kane, Kasey and Alissa; and Paul Verska of Masontown.
