GOAL: $50,000

CURRENT TOTAL: $17,639.18

Just a week away from Christmas, the Give-A-Christmas fund stands at $17,639.18 — less than half the goal of $50,000.

“I’m worried,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “Remember the funds are donated to the Salvation Army to help people in your neighborhoods. So we really want to make this a success and we have very little time.”

Sparkle is pleased, however, to report that Herald-Standard readers are continuing to support the campaign with another $1,282 coming in the latest donations. Those contributions came from readers in Uniontown, Masontown, Connellsville, Smock, Fairchance, Smithfield, Perryopolis, Clarksville, Wickhaven, Farmington, Point Marion, Oliver and Lemont Furnace.

“That’s so wonderful,” said Sparkle. “Thank you so much to all who are helping.”

The Christmas star also received some nice notes from readers who contributed to the campaign:

“Dear Sparkle, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God bless,” wrote Joe and Joyce Embacher, of Uniontown, who gave in loving memory of the Joseph Embacher and Walter Spear families and in honor of their grandchildren Travis, Kristen, Liberty, Joe, Logan and Dovonaha.

“Sparkle, Keep up the good work,” wrote Bob and Sandy Fee, of Uniontown, who gave in memory of their daughter Denene Fee.

“Dear Sparkle and our friends and family at the Herald-Standard, We’d like to wish a Merry Christmas to all,” wrote G. Phil and Command Sgt. Major Diana Palya Bokoch USAR, of Uniontown, who gave in honor of Sgt. Eric R. Hull.

Today’s other donors include Central Christian Church, Uniontown; Clarence and Geraldine Bricker, in memory of their loving daughter Anna Marie Hickle and in honor of their grandchildren, Fairchance; Fred and Bobra Michotte, in honor of all the little ones, Uniontown; Rod and Karen Schoener, in memory of old friends and colleagues, Smithfield; Paul Zasadny, in memory of his parents Jean and Walter Zasadny, Wickhaven.

Andrew J. Stepanik, Uniontown; Anonymous, Masontown; Anonymous, Connellsville;Wanda Galie, Smock; James and Elma Sokol, Perryopolis; William Chambers and Susan Toth, Clarksville; Loren and Sharon Hughes, Farmington; Dr. Ashleigh and C.J. Callahan, God bless the children of the world, Point Marion; Dorothy Clawson, Oliver; John and Kathy Pechunka, Lemont Furnace.

“Thank you so much for your kind words and wishes,” said Sparkle, “and remember, if you want to participate in Give-A-Christmas, the time to give is now.”

Donations to the campaign will be accepted until noon on Dec. 23 with the grand total announced in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.

Readers can contribute by making online donations to the campaign at salvationarmywpa.org/GiveAChristmas, mail contributions to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or bring them to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Sparkle cans also have been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
