WAYNESBURG — During Greene County’s salary board meeting Thursday, the board approved the hiring of Andrew Lock for the assistant district attorney position that was vacated by the resignation of William Kozich Jr.

Lock, a native of Bethlehem, attended Carnegie Mellon University on an Army ROTC Scholarship, graduating in 2007. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2010 and was admitted to practice in Pennsylvania later that year.

Following graduation, Lock served in the U.S. Army as an explosive ordnance disposal officer assigned to the Yakima Training Center in Washington State.

After completion of his military duties, including one tour in Afghanistan, he returned to Pennsylvania.

In a release issued Thursday by the county district attorney’s office, Lock said he and his wife look forward to returning to western Pennsylvania, and he “stands prepared to serve the people of Greene County with the same vigor as he demonstrated with the United States Army, ensuring that their community remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”

The salary board also approved a temporary increased salary for Karen Bennett, executive director of the county’s human service department, for additional duties until a drug and alcohol director is hired.

The increases include a jump from $77,917 to $89,048 a year from May 6 through June 30 and to $93,485 effective July 1.

In other action pertaining to human services, the board accepted the resignation of Melissa Wood, Communities That Care mobilizer; hired Donna Yoney as a full-time social service aide at $12.48 an hour; and adjusted the pay rate for Cody Rush to $50 an hour for all hours worked on the website development for the Communities That Care program between June 2 and 30.

The salary board also approved hiring Michelle Howard as a regular full-time caseworker with Children and Youth Services at $19.40 an hour and transferred Tanner Barnhart to a regular full-time county caseworker with CYS at $18.16 an hour.

Action related to other departments included hiring Leslie Moore as a full-time department clerk in the sheriff’s office at $11.87 and hour, and hiring Tanner Barnhart and Mariah West as casual sheriff deputies at $12 and hour.

Also, the board accepted the retirement of Sandra Pavick as a juvenile probation officer, and hired Cherie Brasile as a full-time custodial worker at $11.32 an hour.

A request to increase the salary of Ryan Armstrong, custody mediation officer for the Court of Common Pleas, died for lack of a motion.
