It’s the most wonderful time of the year

Everyone has their favorite season.

Lots of people love summer and enjoy basking in the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Some like spring because it signifies a renewal of life after a long winter. Believe it or not, there are actually people who like winter the most.

However, for me autumn is my favorite time of year.

There is nothing better than waking up to the sun shining with a slight chill in the air and seeing the beautiful fall colors all over the trees and mums on front porches throughout the neighborhood.

Autumn is also wonderful because you get to snuggle up in big sweatshirts, decorative scarves and warm and rusty colored plaid printed shirts and blankets.

Some people look forward to grilling outside, planting their garden, or skiing during the other seasons. Autumn is the time to go apple picking, navigating through corn mazes and hitching a ride on a haunted hay wagon.

Autumn also is the home of one of my favorite holidays, Halloween.

I have always loved scary movies and decorating our house with Jack O’ Lanterns, skeletons, bats, spiders and other things that go bump in the night.

As anyone can see if they have been to a grocery or big box store everything you can think of is now available with a pumpkin spice flavor including coffees, Twinkies, hummus, beers, and more.

But, overall I love autumn because so many wonderful things in my life happened during this season.

My husband and I started to date on Oct. 1 while we were both in high school. One of our first dates was to a haunted house and hay ride attraction. I was proposed to on our eighth dating anniversary and were married two years later in October.

Our daughter was born in November around Thanksgiving and she always reminds me to count my blessings.

Each year my family comes over to our home to enjoy a Thanksgiving, which provides us with the opportunity to test our culinary skills and hopefully create a memorable feast.

This is usually the time of year when we take our big family vacation, which gives me the opportunity to unplug and unwind while spending time with the people that I love.

So instead of being sad that summer is ending, look at the new season as a way to cuddle up, take in the fall foliage and spend time with the ones you love.
