Geibig sworn in as Fayette County’s newest assistant prosecutor
The Fayette County district attorney’s office welcomed its newest prosecutor to the roster at a swearing in ceremony held Tuesday morning.
“I am happy and pleased to have him as a member of our office,” said District Attorney Jack R. Heneks Jr. as he presented attorney James Geibig to the court to take the oath.
Geibig’s wife, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Casini, and their two children, Luke and Eli, stood by as Heneks described Geibig’s education and qualifications.
“In 15 years of practice, Jim has gained a wide array of criminal law experience at both the state and federal level, and has tried dozens of cases in front of juries,” said Heneks.
Judge Steve P. Leskinen, who rendered the oath, said he has known Geibig a long time.
Anecdotally, Leskinen explained that when Geibig had recently moved back to the area in 2005, after serving in the York County public defender’s office briefly, Geibig applied for a law clerk position with him.
“I determined he was imminently qualified, actually overqualified, for the job, and I suggested he take a couple of weeks and think about it,” Leskinen said.
In that amount of time, he said Geibig won a significant personal injury suit on behalf of a client and learned that private practice was far more lucrative than serving as a law clerk.
Leskinen smiled and said, “I think he’ll be a great addition to the DA’s office,” offering Geibig and Casini’s toddler son a high-five.
Heneks said Geibig was hired to fill a vacancy left by outgoing deputy prosecutor Anthony S. Iannamorelli Jr., who left the office earlier this month. Fayette County now employs one full-time deputy prosecutor, and nine part-timers, he said.
