Perryopolis seeking bids for borough building roof replacement

By Steve Ferris sferris@heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

Perryopolis Borough Council approved advertising for construction bids and loans to replace the roof on the borough building on Wednesday.

Council members agreed to open the bids for the 6,200-square-foot roof at their next meeting on May 11.

General construction and electrical contracts will be awarded. The general contract includes replacing the roof, gutters, downspouts, soffit and fascia, and the electrical contract includes replacing lighting.

The general contract work is estimated to cost $30,000, but an estimate on the electrical work wasn’t available.

Council has some, but not all of the money for the project, Paul E. Black, council president, said.

The amount council has to borrow won’t be known until the electrical work estimate is provided, Black said.

In unrelated business, council took no action on a proposal from Atlantic Broadband to extend the TV cable franchise agreement for 10 years.

The company has been operating under terms of the previous 10-year contract since it expired last year, Fran Bradley, Atlantic Broadband’s government and franchising affairs manager, said.

He told council that the borough would continue to receive a 3 percent share of service revenue and the same courtesy services it receives now under the proposed contract.

In other business, council:

n Announced that the borough will receive an $1,1172 refund from the Internal Revenue Service due an error the IRS made.

n Approved advertising for contractors to pave Liberty Street starting at Hancock and Lincoln streets.

n Approved buying for park benches for up to $5,000. Councilman Thomas Kmetz voted against the motion.

n Approved yard debris burning on Saturday until May 31.
