Valley Art Club plans annual juried exhibit
The Valley Art Club will hold its 74th annual juried exhibit Sept. 25 in the Monessen Public Library.
The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. At the event, winners of this year’s judging will be announced. Refreshments will be served.
Christine Kocevar, professor of fine arts at Westmoreland County Community College, will be the guest judge. Artists will be recognized in eight categories, including “best valley scene.”
Categories for the exhibit are: best of show, best oil or acrylic, best water color, best other media, best theme and best valley scene.
First place, second place, third place and honorable mention are awarded in the following categories: genre, landscape/sea scape, portrait, still life floral, modern experimental and animal wildlife.
The exhibit will run through Oct. 7.
Sally Taylor, treasurer of the Valley Art Club, said the juried exhibit is the highlight of the year for the club.
“That’s our whole build up for the year, toward this event,” Taylor said.
The Valley art Club was founded in 1941 as the Monessen Art Club and hosted its first exhibit.
There are currently 22 members in the Valley Art Club. Those wishing to join are invited to attend a club meeting, held on the second Tuesday of each month, March through November, at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services building in Charleroi.
The club members plan an annual outing, choosing a suitable setting that will inspire them to paint.
