Give-A-Christmas campaign continues to grow
Total: $4,594.85
Goal: $25,000
The Herald-Standard Give-A-Christmas campaign continues to grow as readers have donated an additional $400 to the fund.
“We are thrilled that our fund is growing,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, the official mascot for the campaign. “This brings us another step closer to helping the Salvation Army throughout our readership area.”
The goal this year is $25,000, Sparkle said.
Readers from East Millsboro, New Salem, Uniontown, Chalk Hill and Star Junction were the latest ones to donate to the fund.
Their collective contributions of $415 raised the new grand total to $4,594.85.
“Dear Sparkle, wishing you peace, love and joy at Christmas and always,” wrote Donna Mehalek of New Salem in memory of her husband Joe Mehalek. “Merry Christmas and a blessed and happy new year!”
“Dear Sparkle, hope you reach your goal. Keep shining,” wrote Dan and Mary Glitz, and their dog Reva, of Uniontown.
Bob and Vee Shutty made a donation in memory of “our family members who passed away, our dog Frosty, and especially our mom Mary Ann Kordella, who passed away in June, who we miss so much. Merry Christmas.”
A donation was also made in memory of deceased family members by John and Sharon Peccon of Star Junction. The Triangle Class of Great Bethel Baptist Church also made a donation.
Donations were also collected from Alice Mitchell of East Millsboro, Joy Craig of Uniontown and Jeff and Mary Girod of Uniontown.
“Thank you, everyone, for your kind donations. They will certainly go to help those in need this holiday season,” Sparkle said.
Donations can be made to Give-A-Christmas, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or by stopping by the Herald-Standard office during business hours.
Herald-Standard employees will also be out Dec. 9 at the Uniontown Wal-Mart to collect for Give-A-Christmas. Employees will give newspapers to those who make a donation.
Contributions will be accepted until 5 p.m. Dec. 22. The final amount collected for the campaign will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
