Holiday decorations, carolers, refreshments and horse-drawn carriage rides await visitors to the eighth annual Magic and Mistletoe held 6-9 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Fayette County Courthouse, located at 61 E. Main St., Uniontown.

Sponsored by Fayette County Community Action with co-sponsor Mike Wood Toyota in cooperation with Fayette County, the event supports a discretionary fund used by Community Action that benefits any Fayette County client in need, explained Rita Masi, Community Action’s housing project manager.

The courthouse is dressed for the holidays, featuring the five courtrooms and the entire building as office employees have decorated their doors for this event. There is also a contest for the best-decorated door.

“As you walk through, everything is decorated in Christmas splendor,” said Masi.

The five courtrooms and their decorators/refreshment preparers include: Judge Steve P. Leskinen’s courtroom’s theme is A Christmas Village by Robert Junk with Republic Food Enterprise Center; Judge Linda R. Cordaro’s courtroom, Christmas in Paris by Higinbotham Law Offices; Judge Nancy D. Vernon’s courtroom, Belle’s Christmas (from Beauty and the Beast) by Five Wise Women: Jamie Brink, Denise Engle, Marilyn Fitzsimmons, Mallory McCune and Mimi McDonough, and Hartsek’s Catering; Judge John F. Wagner Jr.’s courtroom, Farmhouse Decorations by Kim Hawk; and Judge Joseph George’s courtroom, An Old-Fashioned Christmas by the Bruderhof in Farmington.

Christmas carols will be performed by the Beesontown Singers, Bruderhof and Cal Singers from California University.

Wharton Elementary School, located in Wharton Township and part of the Uniontown Area School District, will participate in the gingerbread house competition, which was open to any school-age youth in Fayette County.

Melissa McKulka and her culinary students at Fayette County Career and Technical Institute in Georges Township will sponsor gingerbread cookie decorating. There will be a silent auction.

Complimentary carriage rides sponsored by Sprowls Insurance Group will take visitors down Main Street and then return to the courthouse. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance.
