Holiday fund keeps climbing
Total: $5,119.85
Goal: $25,000
The latest donations bring the Give-A-Christmas total to $5,119.85.
“I’m so happy that readers are responding to this campaign that benefits the Salvation Army but we have a long way to go to reach our goal of raising $25,000,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “I really hope we can make it.”
Sparkle received a nice note with the latest donations:
“Hi Sparkle, We hope you met your Christmas goal. May God bless all of you,” wrote Marlene Cushma and Mary Elaine Cushma of California.
Joanne Jordan of New Salem gave “in loving memory of my beautiful granddaughter Heather Lynn Garbutt, who died in an automobile accident on her way to work on December 7, 2002. With love from her Bubba.”
“We’re so touched when someone chooses to remember others with a gift to Give-A-Christmas,” said Sparkle. “And we’re so pleased with all the readers who remember this campaign.”
Herald-Standard employees will be at Uniontown Wal-Mart on Friday for a collection for Give-A-Christmas and give out newspapers to donors.
“We’re hoping that people respond to the collection,” said Sparkle, “but you can also send a donation at any time.”
Donations can be sent to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or drop off a contribution at the Herald-Standard office during business hours.
Donations will continue to be taken until 5 p.m. Dec. 22 and the final amount collected will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
