Give-A-Christmas fund climbs past $7,000 mark

Generous Herald-Standard readers have contributed nearly $2,000 to the Give-A-Christmas campaign, raising the total to $7,111.85.
“Wow! That’s amazing,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “I’m so thrilled with our readers who are sending donations to Give-A-Christmas. Remember that we want to raise $25,000 to benefit the Salvation Army!”
The latest donations came from Uniontown, Perryopolis, Hopwood, Carmichaels, McClellandtown, Smithfield, Brownsville, Wickhaven, Star Junction, Point Marion and Allison.
Sparkle also received some nice notes:
“Sparkle, we hope you meet your goal and for those receiving to have peace, love and joy in the new year,” wrote the Barry Lynch family of Perryopolis, who gave “in memory of family and friends lost the past couple of years and two dear friends this year: Robert D. Johnson and Sharon Smith.”
“Hope you meet your goal. Enjoy the season,” wrote Jack and Evelyn Suder and Kelly Holt of Hopwood.
“Dear Sparkle, Here is a small donation to help out with your gift giving,” wrote White House Ladies Nite Out.
“Season’s Greetings, Sparkle, We wish everyone a Merry and Blessed Christmas. Our best wishes for the holidays,” wrote Ann Marie and Joe Sarko of Uniontown, who gave “in honor of our six grandchildren: Isabel, Thomas, Julia, Addison, Brenna and Georgia.”
“Dear Sparkle, May this help with your Christmas appeal. Best wishes,” wrote Ed and Vicki Maldovan of Uniontown, who gave “in memory of John and Loretta Maldovan and John and Victoria Barno and Rick Maldovan.”
“Dear Sparkle, May you reach your goal of $25,000 to help the less fortunate. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” wrote Ruby J. McKnight of Smithfield, who gave “in memory of my husband, Richard, and grandson, Grant.”
“Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas,” wrote Anonymous, who gave “in memory of Geano Galie, Barb Batis McLemore and Joe Batis Jr.”
“Hello Sparkle, Greetings and good wishes for another successful Give-A-Christmas campaign. We have enclosed our donation in memory of our deceased members and friends. Merry Christmas to all,” wrote Friends from High House.
“Thank you for the donations and the good wishes,” said Sparkle. “Please continue to send or drop off your donations and don’t forget that Herald-Standard employees will be at the Uniontown Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to collect for the campaign. They are giving newspapers out to those who donate. Please show your support.”

Donations can be sent to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or drop off a contribution at the Herald-Standard office during business hours.
Donations will be taken until 5 p.m. Dec. 22. The final collection will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
