Holiday fund climbing slowly

The Give-A-Christmas fund that benefits the Salvation Army continues to climb, but slowly. The latest donations from Herald-Standard readers amounted to $295 and bring the total to $7,706.85.
“I want to thank everyone who sent in these donations. They came from readers in New Salem, Fairchance, Scottdale, Adah, Uniontown and Gibbon Glade,” said Sparkle. “But, oh my, we have a long way to go to reach our goal of raising $25,000 for the Salvation Army. We need some help.”
The latest donors include Nathan Lewis-Fort Necessity Lodge, New Salem; Miles and Debra Baker, Fairchance; Angela Andursky and Gregg Maruca Jr., in memory of grandfather Frank Maruca, Scottdale; Louise Manchas, in memory of husband Joseph Manchas, Adah; Patricia and Sam Franks, in memory of deceased family members, Uniontown; G. Phil and Command Sgt. Major (Retired) USAR Diana Palya Bokoch, in memory of Sgt. Eric Hull, “May God’s blessing be with all,” Uniontown; Traci Hixon, in honor of niece Olivia Goudy and nephews Gage and Wade Brugger, Gibbon Glade; James Edwards, Uniontown.
Sparkle wants to remind everyone that Herald-Standard employees will be at Uniontown Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for a collection for Give-A-Christmas and will give out newspapers to donors.
“If you’re in the area, please stop by,” said Sparkle. “We’d really like to see this fund grow. But, remember you can donate at anytime by dropping a donation in the mail or stopping by the Herald-Standard office.”
Donations can be sent to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or dropped off at the Herald-Standard office during business hours.
Donations will continue to be taken until 5 p.m. Dec. 22, and the final amount collected will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
