Readers continue to donate to Give-A-Christmas
Total: $8,544.85
Goal: $25,000
The Give-A-Christmas fund continues to grow as the latest donations from Herald-Standard readers push it to $8,544.85.
“That’s fantastic,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “We saw another $525 come in with the most recent donations. Remember that we want to raise $25,000 for the Salvation Army in our Herald-Standard readership area. Money you donate stays local to help your neighbors. Won’t you, please, give today?”
The latest donations include First United Methodist Church of Brownsville, which gave “In memory of all our past members”; and Ruth Kelly, of Uniontown, who gave “in memory of Dr. Clarence R. Kelley, Henry and Freda Festog, Henry Festog Jr., Eugene and Jackie Festog, Frank Hoferer, Evert Stafford and Mildred Stafford.”
Sparkle also received a nice note with a donation from Lt. Col. Michelle Stoffa and her 20-month-old son, Zachary, from Tampa, Florida, with Michelle noting the contribution is “in honor of my little miracle baby.”
They wrote:
“Dear Sparkle, Merry Christmas! I hope 2016 was good to you. Zachary and I look forward to coming home to Uniontown for Christmas! We can’t wait to see Mom/Grandma and our family and friends. Zachary has changed so much in a year. Every time he sees Christmas lights, he says, “Pretty!” We wish all of the wonderful people a very Happy Holiday!”
“Thank you so much for the kind words and good wishes,” said Sparkle. “It’s a great season for both: counting our blessings and thinking of others in need. I hope we’ll see many more nice wishes and contributions.”
Donations can be sent to Give-A-Christmas, c/o Herald-Standard, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or drop off a contribution at the Herald-Standard office during business hours.
Donations will continue to be taken until 5 p.m. Dec. 22 and the final amount collected will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
