Washington Township passes 2017 budget without a tax increase
WASHINGTON TWP. — The board of supervisors approved a final budget of $1,529,430 during its public meeting Wednesday evening. According to Chairman Dan Moody, residents of Washington Township will not pay higher taxes this coming year.
In other action, the board voted to:
n Give $100 gift cards to all township employees during the holiday season.
n Place an advertisement that declares the board’s intention to use a professional CPA firm for the 2016 audit.
n Donate $500 to the fire department for its “Kids of 42” fundraising drive. Several members of the fire department will distribute toys for children and meals or food packages for seniors and other needy residents on Christmas Eve.
In addition, Moody announced that the board of supervisors’ reorganization meeting will be held on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m., followed by the board’s regular monthly meeting. During this meeting, the board will also select individuals to fill open positions on the Mon Valley Transit Authority, Municipal Board and Veteran’s Committee, and it will select another auditor. Anyone who would like to be considered for these positions should send a letter of interest to the Washington Township Board of Supervisors.
Moody added that the board will continue to hold its regular monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. throughout 2017.
Members of the board also thanked two local organizations for making donations to help defray the costs for new traffic cameras. The Lion’s Club donated $4,000 and the Youth Association donated $1,000 for the cameras.
Also during the meeting, Supervisor Jan Amoroso announced that residents can now bring recyclable items to a retriever bin that has been set up near the Water Authority site. Accepted items include newspapers, magazines, shopping catalogs, junk mail, office and school papers, white envelopes, cardboard, phone books, books and calendars. No food wrap/containers, tissue products, plastic, glass or aluminum will be accepted.
