These photos show how The Gettys Room at the Carnegie Free Library of Connellsville looked long ago and how it looks today. In the undated photo, provided by the Fayette County Historical Society, a few updates can be seen. The old tables and chairs have been replaced, and computers are now present in the library along Pittsburgh Street. In the new photo, overhead chandeliers are featured, replacing the tabletop lighting, and the floor has been replaced as evidenced by the direction of the wood. According to the library’s website, Carnegie Free Library opened its doors on April 30, 1903, due to the generosity of Andrew Carnegie. The library was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
