PERRYOPOLIS — Frazier School Board began preparing to offer readiness programs for next school year by voting to add personnel for the four-day events.

At its regular meeting Monday, the board approved to hire up to two teachers and two aides for the pre-K transition program and up to five teachers and five aides for the kindergarten readiness program for the 2016-17 school year.

Both programs will be held Aug. 15-18 at Frazier Elementary School.

Students will attend the pre-K transition program during one of two sessions held daily from 8:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and from 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The program is funded by the district and the United Way Transition Grant.

Students will attend the kindergarten readiness program daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Teachers and aides will be paid at a contracted rate, funded by the district through Title 1.

In other matters, school directors approved an agreement with Uniontown Area School District to allow Frazier students to participate with Uniontown’s varsity boys and girls soccer teams for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.

Frazier will pay Uniontown $150 per participating student to help offset the cost of the program.

Uniontown approved the agreement earlier this month.

In a work session prior to the voting meeting, the board discussed potential avenues of action to take regarding the recently closed Central Elementary School.

Superintendent Bill Henderson said the district has received interest from at least one construction company to perform the demolition of the building and associated work at the property, including asbestos and building pad removal.

The board discussed possible options for the property, including finding prospective buyers or demolishing the school and utilizing the remaining fields.

During the work session, President Tom Shetterly reported that a public auction of items held March 13 at Central Elementary School yielded a total of $14,606, with the district netting $11,584 in proceeds.

Also Monday, the board:

n Retroactively approved an agreement for the current school year with Adelphoi Education Inc. to provide alternative educational services for youth at $77.18 a day for regular education and $84.94 a day for special education.

n Approved a security agreement with the Intermediate Unit 1 Health Insurance Consortium Trust to provide medical coverage for the district’s employees.

n Approved Becky Kline as cheerleading head coach and Maria Weiser as middle school cheerleading coach for the 2016-17 school year, and George McGavitt as middle school baseball volunteer for the current year.
