Pet Pictures to benefit Monongahela library

The Friends of the Monongahela Area Library are recruiting local pets and pet owners in its latest fundraising drive to help benefit the library.

Named Pet Pictures, the Friends of the Monongahela Area Library fundraiser will be held 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 in Chess Park. If it rains, the event will be moved to the library.

Sharon Andrews, treasurer of the Friends of the Monongahela Area Library, said Pet Pictures is a returning popular event.

“We took a couple of years off because the same pets would come,” Andrews said with a laugh.

Chris Grilli, owner of Grilli’s Studios, takes all of the photographs. The cost is $20 cash, no checks.

There are two packages from which to choose: one 8- by 10-inch photo and eight wallet photos, or two, 5- by 7-inch photos and eight wallet photographs.

Pets owners can dress their pets in costumes. Children and families can be included in the photos, “as long as there is a pet or two in the picture,” Andrews said.

Appointments are encouraged so organizers can anticipate how many will attend, but walk-ins are accepted too.

The Friends of the Monongahela Area Library is the fundraising arm of the Monongahela Area Library.

New this year, the Friends are selling gourmet popcorn from Ekernally Yours in Charleroi. Order forms are available at the library.

“We raise money to buy items the library needs, such as a new computer or a printer,” Andrews said. “We also fund the children’s program in the summer through Saris Candy sales.”

Anyone wishing to join the Friends of the Monongahela Area Library should call the library at 724-258-5409.
