Elizabeth Township officials further review oil and gas ordinances

By Mark Soroka for The 2 min read

ELIZABETH TWP. — A vote on the township’s pipeline and gas/oil ordinances won’t take place this month.

The commissioners voted to give the township’s planning commission an additional 30 days to review the ordinances and make a recommendation. Vice President Donald Similo said the decision was all about prioritizing.

“The planning commission has a few other items to review right now,” said Similo during the board’s workshop meeting Monday. “The commission needed an extension so it could have enough time to make a careful recommendation about the two ordinances.”

The commissioners will vote on the ordinances after they receive recommendations from the commission.

Also during the meeting, the board voted to:

n Adopt an ordinance that will establish, fix and impose sewage rates and charges for use and service of the sanitary sewer system.

n Direct the proposed zoning map and text amendment submitted by Allegheny Energy Center, LLC (Invenergy) to the planning commission for review and recommendation. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed amendment during a forum today at 7 p.m.

n Reopen bids for the 2017 grass cutting services of vacant property. The board voted to continue using the present grass cutter until a vote is taken.

n Hire George Hartung as a full-time mechanic and laborer for the public works/road department.

n Hire Jeff Harn as a full-time laborer for the public works/road department, contingent upon a review by the solicitor to determine if the position was advertised.

n President Joanne Beckowtiz announced that Amerikohl Mining will be conducting overburden blasting on the Five Oaks property, starting on July 14.
