A lifelong resident of the Mid-Mon Valley, R. Carlyn Belczyk has volunteered her time to Monongahela Valley Hospital and Mon-Vale Health Resources because she said quality health care in a community is important.

“I am committed to doing whatever I can to make this happen,” Belczyk said. “Monongahela Valley Hospital and its precursors, Memorial Hospital of Monongahela and Charleroi-Monessen Hospital, were built by the community for the benefit of the community. It is up to us, now, to continue the legacy left to us and to try to make our community an even better place than it was before.

Recently, Belczyk was re-elected chairwoman of the boards for Monongahela Valley Hospital and its parent organization, Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc.

Belczyk said although health care is experiencing challenging times, she is optimistic about the future for MVH.

“I believe with the time and talents of our board members, management, physicians, nurses and staff as well as many of our community leaders, Monongahela Valley Hospital can not only survive but thrive in this environment,” she said.

A certified public accountant, Belczyk was first elected to the boards in 2005. She was subsequently elected secretary in 2007, vice chairwoman in 2010, and chairwoman in 2015.

Jeff M. Kotula was re-elected vice chairman. Bradley M. Bassi was elected to his first term as the secretary of both boards.

The president of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Kotula was first elected to the Mon-Vale Health Resources board in 2008 and subsequently to the hospital board in 2009. He began serving as the secretary to both boards in 2010 and vice chairman in 2015.

A partner with Bassi, Vreeland & Associates PC in Charleroi, Bassi was elected to both boards in 2012. An attorney, he serves on the nominating, bylaws, and hospital planning and outreach committees.

In addition, the following were re-elected to the Mon-Vale Health Resources board: Lillian C. Beattie; Walter R. Cox, M.D; John D. Fry; S.P. Hewie, M.D; David T. Hunter; Jeffrey D. Imbrescia; R.G. Krishnan, M.D.; Kevin M. Lee; and Jaime L. Prah.

Re-elected to Monongahela Valley Hospital’s board were John D. Fry; S.P. Hewie, M.D; R.G. Krishnan, M.D.; Kevin M. Lee; and Jamie L. Prah.

A Mon-Vale Health Resources board member since 2015, Archie Allridge was elected to his first term to fill to the vacancy created when Dana Caruso Slagle resigned to move out of state. Slagle served Mon-Vale Health Resources from 1999 to 2017 and the hospital board beginning in 2005.
