Supervisors approve first step in liquor license transfer to new Foodland location
SOUTH UNION TWP. — The new Foodland location set to open later this summer in Hopwood is one step closer to being able to sell alcohol.
Following a brief public hearing during their regular township meeting, township supervisors approved a resolution that would approve the transfer of a liquor license after it goes through an investigation process with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
The liquor license is currently issued to 1140 Walnut Hill Road in Georges Township.
Council for the new Foodland location set to open in the former Adrian’s Market building appeared before the supervisors, informing them that they would like to sell beer and wine along with groceries.
As per state regulations, they would also have a seating area to accommodate 30 people near their hot foods portion attached to the deli.
Attorney Chris Nichols appeared on behalf of his client and noted for the supervisors that it would be packaged alcohol and not any hard liquor.
Nichols said it would be a convenience to shoppers.
They also noted that the store is scheduled to open mid-August, with a similar blueprint to the former grocery store but complete with a new floor and paint.
