By Christopher Buckley cbuckley@heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

St. Damien of Molokai will hold its annual SummerFest, Friday and Saturday, at the parish park at First and Main streets in Monongahela, located behind Dierkens Pharmacy.

The festival is being held in July for the second straight year after being held in June for many years.

Mass will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in the park.

The festival will be held 5-11 p.m. both days. The kitchen will be open until 10:30 p.m. Bingo will begin at 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, The NuTones will perform from 7-10:30 p.m., playing rock, country and polka music.

The Pittsburgh Bel Airs will perform classic and doo-wop on Saturday, from 7-10:30 p.m.

In addition, there will be a bake sale, basket raffle, games and small games of chance.

Food available will include pizza, wings, funnel cakes, ice cream, Rita’s Italian Ice and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

There will also be ethnic foods, such as polenta with sausage or meatball sandwiches, haluski, perogies and stuffed shells.

At the fryer, shrimp and crabcakes will be made, too.

The Knights of Columbus barbecue will feature ribs, chicken and pork chops.

Admission and parking is free.

St. Damien of Molokai Parish was formed in 2011 with the merger of the former Transfiguration and St. Anthony’s parishes in Monongahela.

This is the sixth annual Summerfest held since the merger.

Previously St. Anthony’s held is Festa, and the Transfiguration parish held a summer festival.

“It’s a gathering of the community with good food and camaraderie,” said Phyllis DeMedio, a parish secretary. “It’s an opportunity for people to get together. We get calls each year asking who is entertaining. People look forward to it every year.”
