Fayette salary board approves new post
The Fayette County Salary Board has created a new position in the district attorney’s office that will combine two duties and curb costs.
In unanimous action Wednesday, board members including Commissioners Vincent Vicites, Dave Lohr and Angela M. Zimmerlink and Controller Scott Abraham, along with District Attorney Rich Bower approved the establishment of the legal secretary II/victim witness coordinator position.
Amanda Porter, county Human Resources acting director, said that a member of Bower’s staff took on both roles in January, but a position could not be created until an agreement with the employee union could be reached.
“That has been worked out,” she said.
Porter added that up to one-half of the salary would be defrayed through a state Commission on Crime grant received by the district attorney’s office with the remaining portion of the salary paid by the county.
In a related matter, the board approved a pay increase for the victim witness coordinator position from the current hourly salary of $13.35 to $14.29.
The board additionally increased the per diem rate for Veterans Affairs drivers from $60 per day to $75 per day.
When questioned by Zimmerlink whether the increase had been a part of the 2017 department budget, Porter said the amount was verified.
The action was unanimously approved.
