The following information details achievements in education earned by those in the Herald-Standard readership area.
Cal U hosts teaching assistant
California University of Pennsylvania is hosting Emad Hakim of Egypt as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant this academic year. Hakim will tutor Cal U Global Online students in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Arabic to help them gain language proficiency and complete class assignments. He will also assist in organizing cultural events on campus.
The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant program brings early-career educators from around the world to study at U.S. colleges while they teach their native languages, assist in language instruction and serve as cultural ambassadors.
Hakim has a bachelor’s degree in English from Bani-Suef University, near Cairo, and has been an English teacher for five years. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in teaching methodology.
Williams graduates
Zachary Williams of Connellsville recently graduated from the Special Olympics Pennsylvania (Fayette County) Athlete Leadership University with a degree in communications.
Williams is the organization’s Global Messenger for Fayette County and is responsible for communicating with local organizations and businesses to share information about Fayette County Special Olympics.

Diplomas awarded
The following students recently graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania: Chase Foglia, Belle Vernon, bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology; Kathryn Gadd, Uniontown, master’s degree in clinic mental health counseling; Elissa Kopf, Connellsville, bachelor’s degree in sociology; Amanda Parker, Uniontown, bachelor’s degree in nursing; and Alexander Rusak, Belle Vernon, bachelor’s in management/general.
