Artbeat to host Halloween-themed event in Greene County
Local author Michele Bowser will greet Halloween by exploring the bizarre side of storytelling and make-up artist Carly Riggi will demonstrate tricks of the trade of theatrical horror make-up during a spooky evening in Waynesburg.
The event is set to take place 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Artbeat Gallery.
According to Artbeat Gallery co-owner Linda Winegar, Bowser is a “faunt of creativity and a bizarro spirit.” The Spraggs resident has harnessed her creative energy to produce three books and has been involved in many other creative endeavors, including producing a full-length film, “My Uncle John is a Zombie.” The film will see its world premiere Nov. 16 in Oakmont.
Her books include “Don’t Yell at the Damn Desk Clerk,” a tale of the travails of a motel night clerk and the looney guests that stumble through the door; “Nuke Punk,” a retro-futuristic look at the 1980s; and “The Hags of Black County,” a twisted look at small-town life.
In addition, special effects make-up Artist Carly Riggi will be on board to talk about and demonstrate some of the techniques used in achieving the ghoulish and gruesome effects utilized in today’s horror films.
Riggi collaborated with Bowser on her film work and had the honor of being a zombie and an assistant to the make-up artists for John Russo’s film “My Uncle John is a Zombie.”
Riggi won Best in Show at the 2017 Steel City Comic-Con for her special effects make-up as the Housewife from Hell and also won second place at the Pittsburgh Horror Realm 2017 for the Best Special Effects Make-up.
Light refreshments will be available during the Oct. 25 event.
“This should be a very intriguing evening, so come on out!” Winegar said.
The Artbeat Gallery is located at 52 East High Street in downtown Waynesburg.
