SWPA to present program for aging population
The Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA) Area Agency on Aging will reach out to the Mon Valley community with special programming highlighting local services available for an aging population.
Robin Youger, operations supervisor for SWPA Area Agency on Aging, will present “Community and Home-Based Services for Older Adults,” April 5, at the First Presbyterian Church in North Belle Vernon.
The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. It will be preceded by a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Sue Currie, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in North Belle Vernon, said the stewardship committee of the church had been looking for new ways to reach out into the community and meet some of its needs.
“As we looked forward, we recognized that many of the people in the community are either older adults or are caring for older adults,” Currie said. “The church decided to offer programs on the services available for the elderly.”
Youger’s presentation will discuss services available for adults 60 years of age and older.
These include community support and services such as senior community centers, elderly nutrition program, health insurance counseling (APPRISE), health and wellness community education and wellness programs, special events and activities, and ombudsman.
There will also be an overview on in-home support and services, including comprehensive needs assessment, caregiver support program, OPTIONS Care Management, nursing home Transition, domiciliary care, adult day care programs, adult protective and legal services for elderly residents.
